One Night Walking Safari Overview

Day One

The Adventure Begins

12:00 Arrival

Upon arrival in the afternoon at Zinzi River Lodge, on the banks of the Olifants River, you are welcomed into a tranquil wilderness atmosphere. After a short orientation and briefing outlining the journey ahead, we set off on foot.

13:00 We head into the Bush

The walk to Isitini Camp follows the river, across open plains and rocky ridges, with time to track wildlife, read the landscape, and take in the quiet details of the bush.

The reserve forms part of an unfenced  Big Five area where all wildlife roams freely, so each step carries the thrilling potential of encountering Africa’s most iconic wildlife on foot. While our walks take place in true wilderness, there is no need for concern. Every trail is led by highly experienced, professional guides who read the bush with expert skill, ensuring your safety at all times. Their deep knowledge of animal behavior, tracking, and bushcraft allows you to fully immerse yourself in the experience, knowing every step is taken according to the highest safety standards.

17:30 Arrival at Isitini Camp

By late afternoon, around 17:30, you’ll arrive at Isitini Camp. We arrive just in time to watch the sun set, then settle in for a night under canvas, enjoying snacks, a warm dinner, and the soothing sounds of the wild all around us. After the day’s walk, a hot bucket shower awaits — steam rising into the evening air as warm water washes away the dust of the trail, leaving you refreshed and restored beneath the fading light.

Isitini Camp sits atop ancient limestone ridges, with sweeping views across the Lowveld. As the sun sets, we settle in with drinks and snacks, followed by a hearty dinner around the campfire. Evenings here are unhurried - a chance to share stories, soak in the stillness, and fall asleep to the sounds of the wild.

Day two

05:30 Boots to Earth at Sunrise

We start the day early with a 05:30 wake-up call, followed by coffee and rusks at 06:00 as the first light begins to touch the horizon. The bush is quiet, but alive — and we listen closely. A distant lion’s roar stirs anticipation. Will we cross their path today?

06:30 Last Day on Foot Begins

At 06:30, we set off on our homeward walk back to Zinzi River Lodge. This last stretch is open-ended and responsive — guided by wind direction, fresh tracks, and the instinct of the guides. We take our time, soaking in the last hours on foot.

10:00 Arrival at Lodge

By 10:00, we arrive at the lodge — tired, content, and full of stories. A relaxed brunch is served at 11:00, followed by time to unwind, share photos, and reflect on the trail before we say our goodbyes.
